Wigan ran in eight tries in a 48-16 Engage Super League demolition of Crusaders at Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground on Sunday.<\/span><\/p>\n

It finishes off an impressive holiday period for the Warriors, in which they have taken maximum points, following Easter triumphs over St Helens and Wakefield.<\/span><\/p>\n

In contrast, Crusaders, who had hopes of causing another shock after their stunning Good Friday success against leaders Huddersfield, must go back to the drawing board.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wigan wing Pat Richards started the rout when he leapt highest to take a cross-kick to the corner of the Crusaders’ goal area from Brett Finch and touch down on three minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Warriors threatened more as the Crusaders defended stoutly and also had a couple of attacking chances themselves. However, the floodgates opened after 20 minutes when the Warriors went from 6-0 ahead to 24-0 up.<\/span><\/p>\n

Scrum-half Thomas Leuluai was outstanding in getting the fourth try of the match following good work by full-back Sam Tomkins.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tomkins was also one of the stars of the show, grabbing one of those three tries in eight minutes and helped in the move that took Finch in for the fifth touchdown.<\/span><\/p>\n

All tries were converted by Richards to give Wigan a 30-0 half-time lead.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trend<\/span><\/h4>\n

The trend continued after the restart when Leuluai ran down the left to set Charnley up for his second try.<\/span><\/p>\n

Known for staging fightbacks, Crusaders did not allow their heads to drop, although this one was far too much for them to overturn even when former Wales rugby union star Gareth Thomas broke their duck with a try in the corner on 55 minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wigan hit back moments later, though, when Michael McIlorum dashed home from 25 metres to the line.<\/span><\/p>\n

The home side got more points on the board even though it was a lost cause, half-back Michael Witt latching onto a Tony Martin pass near the Warriors line to score.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thomas then broke from 40 metres out to set wing Stuart Reardon in at the left corner, although the touchdown looked as though it may have been dropped at the final moment.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Warriors ensured they grabbed the last score, though, when the outstanding Tomkins ran in from 30 metres to complete the scoring in the last minute.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/p>\n
