GOVERNOR Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State yesterday condoled with South-South Leader, Chief E. K. Clark, and the Adowei family in Kiagbodo, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, over the killing of their son, Mr. Elliot Adowei, who was a serving Corps member in Bauchi State, during the post election violence.<\/p>\n

The Governor who was represented by Mr. David Ekerekosu, Commissioner for Oil and Gas, who led other top government officials, said, \u201cWe have come here to formally commiserate with you over your son who was killed in Bauchi while on national assignment. We are pained and we pray that God Almighty gives you the fortitude to bear the loss.<\/p>\n

\u201cFortunately, the deceased left behind children who will bear his name, he cannot be forgotten. He is a martyr of democracy. The Federal Government has directed that they be given state burial. The loss is painful, and the state government will be fully involved to see that his death was not in vain.\u201d<\/p>\n

Responding, Clark narrated how the family got a distress call from the deceased at Bauchi during the crisis, saying \u201che called Colonel Clark that he was in the police station that they were being attacked; he was directed to go to the military barracks and call thereafter.<\/p>\n

\u201cElliot requested for a recharge card which was sent to him, after sometime, Colonel called him to know if he was at the barracks but a lady answered that call saying that \u2018we have killed him, we burnt the police station\u2019. Later his name was written in the list of missing persons and the corpse was later found in the morgue.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aged mother of the deceased, Madam Unuedjaye Clark who refused to be consoled, while wailing and rolling on the floor said, \u201cBauchi don kill my pikin, my pikin wey my brother don train for me, Bauchi give me my pikin.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mrs. Tessy Adowei, widow of the deceased was still in shock as at the time of this report.<\/p>\n

In her words, \u201cIt is like a bad dream. I can\u2019t believe that my husband is dead. How do I survive with the four kids? Somebody should tell me that it is not true.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vanguard learnt that the late Corps member left behind four kids, Evans (male 8), Ekana (male 5), Merit (female,1 year 4months) and Anthony (male, 4months).<\/p>\n

It was also gathered that Chief Clark was responsible for his education before he was slain.<\/p>\n

Clark added that \u201cI think this sacrifice is too much for us, we have done a lot to ensure that this country remains one. Even though the boy is dead it is still sacrifice, but the comments by the Bauchi State governor was unfortunate, he is supposed to be the security chief of the state.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
