LAGOS\u2014An educationist and Principal of Loral International Schools, Festac, Mr. Ben Uzoukwu, in Lagos, yesterday, said that unless the issues of capacity-building and financial motivation were made top priorities by stakeholders, the standard of education will continue to fall.<\/p>\n

Uzoukwu, who spoke at the induction of students into the platinum club of the school, said teachers in private schools were motivated and encouraged to put in their best, adding that this accounted for high academic performance by most private schools.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cWhen teachers are encouraged to put in their best, the outcome is reflected on the students. That is why most private schools do better because, their teachers are better encouraged in so many ways.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOne thing we don\u2019t play with here in Loral Schools is training and retraining of our teachers. We do that quite often. For instance, some of our teachers are currently undergoing a training workshop in Ikeja. We have other ways of encouraging teachers to make sure that they put in their best. When the teacher is in the right frame of mind to deliver, the students will be the ultimate beneficiaries.\u201d<\/p>\n

The school teacher however, called on the federal and state governments to accord education it rightful place so as to reverse the ugly trend in the system.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
