Kalusha Bwalya has hit out at critics who want him to step down as president of the Football Association of Zambia.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Zambian legend survived an attempt to unseat him on Saturday at the association’s annual general meeting.<\/p>\n

Bwalya remains at the helm after a no-confidence motion in Bwalya’s executive committee failed to materialise.<\/p>\n

His detractors say they are now weighing up the pros and cons of forming a a breakaway league.<\/p>\n

But Bwalya told BBC Sport on Monday that he will not be losing any sleep over threats of a breakaway league.<\/p>\n

“It’s unfortunate but this is Africa, we can’t please everybody,” he said.<\/p>\n

He added: “The people of Zambia are tired of talking about the same thing over and over again; people should give us the chance to finish our mandate.<\/p>\n

“Football in Zambia has never been more vibrant but we have a few people who have consistently gone against the rules.<\/p>\n

“These people will always be against anything we do but we’re not worried because we as the football association know what we’re doing.”<\/p>\n

Bwalya said he could not understand why his enemies are so eager to get rid of him when the next FAZ election is only seven months away.<\/p>\n

“Considering the elective year is 2012, the club which wanted to table the motion decided it was better to wait, which we thought was the best way forward.<\/p>\n

“We have worked very well but it’s unfortunate that another picture is painted for the outside world.”<\/p>\n

He said the problem in Zambian football is rooted in officials “who do not stick to the constitution and statutes of the football association”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
