Everton<\/a> defender Leighton Baines<\/a> insists Wigan<\/a> can still win their fight to stay in the Premier League<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Baines, who left Wigan in the summer of 2007 for a fee of \u00a36 million, scored from the penalty spot 12 minutes from time after Hugo Rodallega was judged to have handled the ball in the box.<\/span><\/p>\n

The game finished 1-1, leaving Roberto Martinez\u2019s side in the Premier League drop zone with only three games to play this season, although Baines believes they have enough to stay up.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat it meant to score wasn’t in my mind – but about five seconds later it dawned on me,” the left-back said.<\/span><\/p>\n

“You just have to step up and do your job. My loyalties lie with\u00a0Everton, nobody else.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Wigan still mean a lot to me because of what they did for me as a young lad coming through. I am very grateful for that.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I hope the penalty won’t end up carrying too much weight and they will be fine. They showed they have enough about them.”<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
