Registration for next month’s Kigali Peace Marathon will run from May 2-18 according to the local athletics federation.<\/p>\n

The federation’s secretary general Constantine Twajamahoro told Times Sport yesterday, “This year, the registration period is long enough for all those interested in participating.”<\/p>\n

Entry fee for marathon and relay marathon runners is $45 (Rwf27, 000) and $25 (Rwf15, 000) for the half marathon. Athletes who wish to compete in the 5km race for fun will part with $6 (Rwf3, 600).<\/p>\n

After years of Kenyan domination, Rwanda’s two-time Olympian Epiphanie Nyirabarame, Sylvain Rukundo, Gervais Nizeyimana and Godfrey Rutayisire are out to break the jinx.<\/p>\n

The winner of the full marathon will pocket $2500 (Rwf1.5m) while the tenth will earn $200 (Rwf120, 000).<\/p>\n

The half marathon winner will also pocket $2500 (Rwf1.5m)<\/p>\n

Last year, Rashid Safari emerged as Rwanda’s best athlete after clocking 2hours, 32 minutes and 45 seconds to finish 9th.<\/p>\n

Peter Limo of Kenya claimed the marathon in 2:19:44.<\/p>\n

The marathon is divided into five categories; full marathon (42km), half marathon (21km), 10.54km marathon team relays, 5km course for children and 5km run for fun race.<\/p>\n
