{"id":413667,"date":"2011-05-02T03:25:56","date_gmt":"2011-05-02T03:25:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/05\/02\/golf-number-one-westwood-in-the-hunt-for-missing-major-reuters\/"},"modified":"2011-05-02T03:25:56","modified_gmt":"2011-05-02T03:25:56","slug":"golf-number-one-westwood-in-the-hunt-for-missing-major-reuters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/05\/02\/golf-number-one-westwood-in-the-hunt-for-missing-major-reuters\/","title":{"rendered":"Golf-Number one Westwood in the hunt for &#8216;missing&#8217; major (Reuters)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"51.7555816686\">\n<pre>\nSEOUL, May 2 (Reuters) - <a href=\"http:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/pga\/players\/302\/\">Lee Westwood<\/a> returned to Europe\nafter a two-week Asian excursion on Monday with two more titles\nin the bag, an extra $660,000 in the bank and the feeling that\nhe is playing like a world number one.  \n\nThe 38-year-old, the subject of sniping from the United\nStates when he was elevated to the top of the world rankings\nafter winning last week's Indonesian Masters, bagged the\nEuropean Tour-sanctioned Ballantine's Championship by a stroke\non Sunday.      \n\nThe first reigning number one to play in Korea, Westwood\nneeded a top-five finish at the Blackstone Golf Club to remain\ntop of the rankings but his flawless final five-under-par 67\nmade the calculations redundant.                \n\n\"When you're number one it's always nice to come to a place\nand play like the world number one and I think I did do this\nweek,\" the Briton told a news conference after his victory.     \n\n\"It was very tough out there and to go around without making\na bogey, five birdies and 13 pars was a special round of golf I\nthink.  \n\n\"Professional golf is all about winning, and it's great to\ndo it back-to-back two weeks in a row.\" \n\nSome have questioned Westwood's position as number one given\nhe has yet to win one of golf's four major championships.       \n\nThe Englishman betrayed irritation at the question before\nthe start of the Ballantine's but reiterated afterwards that it\nremained his main target.       \n\n\"My next goal is to win a major championship,\" he said.\n\"It's the dream of all professional golfers to get to number one\nin the world rankings, and I've done that.      \n\n\"I haven't won a major yet and that's the missing thing. So\nthat's what I gave all my practice towards and my scheduling.\nThat's the next thing, hopefully.\"      \n\nThe hilly Blackstone course presented a physical challenge\nto all the players but Westwood, once one of the heavier players\nin the world game, said retaining focus was a bigger test for\nhim these days. \n\n\"The fitness isn't a problem because I do a lot of gym work\nnow when I'm in weeks off. So I've got pretty strong legs and\nthe hills are not much of a problem,\" he said.  \n\n\"It's focusing and concentrating all week, which is the\ndifficult part. Especially when you're in contention. And that\njust comes with playing a lot of professional golf and being in\nthat situation a lot.
