KADUNA\u00a0–\u00a0 The Kaduna State Government said yesterday that there was a huge cache of illegal arms in the state, expressing grave concern over the development.<\/p>\n

Kaduna State\u00a0 Commissioner for Information and Home Affairs, Alhaji Saidu Adamu at a pressbriefing in Kaduna yesterday said the police and the Directorate of State Security Service in the state were working at finding out the source of the huge arms used in the state during the post presidential elections violence that engulfed most parts of the state.<\/p>\n

The commissioner maintained that, even though it is not the responsibility of the state governor to issue licenses for firearms, the state government was not comfortable with the influx of illegal weapons into the state.<\/p>\n

According to him, \u201cthe governor does not give licenses for people to acquire arms and ammunition. Even the President does not have the powers to authorise people to acquire arms. It is the Inspector-General of Police that has the right to give licenses for people to acquire arms and so this is a challenge before the Inspector-General of Police.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to believe that the police know what happened in Kaduna. There is so much ammunition around and some of them very sophisticated and I believe even the police do not have such ammunition.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the outcome of the elections in the state, the commissioner called on the opposition parties in the state to close ranks and work with Governor Patrick Yakowa to develop the state.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
