WARRI- DELTA State Police Command, weekend, warned those planning to cause trouble in the state as a result of their dissatisfaction with the outcome of the April 26 governorship poll\u00a0 that any act of lawlessness would be visited by the full weight of the law.<\/p>\n

Spokesman of the Command, Mr. Charles Muka in a statement said, \u201cDelta State Police Command wishes to state that no permit has been granted to anybody or group to go on any form of procession in the state. The command, therefore, warns that any person(s) or group caught will be dealt with sternly\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, aggrieved persons as a result of the outcome of the just concluded election are advised to exploit constitutional means to resolve such disagreement\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

In his words, \u201cThe command, therefore, warns trouble makers not to test its resolve in maintaining law and order in this regard, as every form of lawlessness will be visited with the full weight of the law\u201d.<\/p>\n

Moments after Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan was declared winner of the April 26 governorship poll, last Thursday, by the returning officer, Prof Richard Anao, DPP members, who were invited to Asaba by the leadership of the party in anticipation of a possible defeat of its candidate, Chief Great Ogboru, took over the streets in protest.<\/p>\n

As the news of Uduaghan\u2019s victory spread, there were protests in Ughelli and Warri just as pro-Uduaghan supporters also celebrated with drums, drinks and music.\u00a0 However, on Saturday, Urhobo women, suspected to be members of the DPP, upped the ante by carrying coffins of Uduaghan and his deputy, Prof Amos Utuama, denouncing their victory in the April 26 poll, and calling for justice.<\/p>\n

In the demonstrations so far, the police maintained neutrality by escorting the protesters to ensure that they did not resort to violence, but with the new stand, it appears the command was no longer prepared to take chances.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
