Wales scrum-half Dwayne Peel has played down the prospect of a move to Australia to join the New South Wales Waratahs.<\/p>\n

Peel, 29, and fellow Wales scrum-half Mike Phillips have recently been linked with the Sydney-based side<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Australian Super Rugby team are seeking a replacement for Wallaby scrum-half Luke Burgess, who will join Toulouse after the World Cup.<\/p>\n

“That’s just media speculation to be honest,” said Peel.<\/p>\n

“There’s nothing much in it really. I’ve obviously got another year left on my contract with Sale.<\/p>\n

“It’s great to be talked about in that vein and I’m not sure where it’s come from.<\/p>\n

“Obviously with Luke Burgess leaving Waratahs it leaves them a nine short I suppose.<\/p>\n

“It’s a great competition which I watch on TV. Obviously it’s something I’d like to be involved in but I’m not sure. I’m 30 in August.”<\/p>\n

Peel has been capped 76 times by his country and joined Sale from Scarlets in the summer of 2008, signing a new two-year deal with the Manchester club in January 2010.<\/p>\n

But Peel has voiced his disappointment with Sale’s campaign in the Aviva Premiership this season.<\/p>\n

“It’s been frustrating to be honest,” added Peel. “It’s been a real difficult season for everyone involved with the club obviously with coaches coming in, coaches leaving.<\/p>\n

“But hopefully next year we can move on. There’s a lot happening behind the scenes at the club and there’s players being signed on a daily basis almost.<\/p>\n

“There’s going to be a whole new squad next year and I’m optimistic for next year with some big players coming in.”<\/p>\n

Peel is hoping to forget a frustrating season with Sale by targeting a place in the Wales squad for the Rugby World Cup in the autumn.<\/p>\n

He made two appearances as a replacement during the Six Nations Championship having been overlooked for the autumn series.<\/p>\n

And the former Scarlets players is hoping he will get the chance to stake his claim when Wales face the Barbarians in Cardiff on 4 June.<\/p>\n

“I have plenty of belief in my own ability so I’ll just go there and work hard and see what happens from there,” said Peel.<\/p>\n

“It’s just about taking your chance. From the small part I got to play in the Six Nations I thought things went quite well for me.<\/p>\n

“I’ll just go from there really. I can’t do any more than that and work hard and hopefully get a bit of game time under my belt.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
