\u00a0Yenagoa-INEC in\u00a0 Bayelsa, yesterday said its adhoc staff deployed for Tuesday\u2019s\u00a0 State House of Assembly elections in Ekeremor council escaped death in the hands of a mob.<\/p>\n

The mob was\u00a0 said to have abducted and\u00a0 sprayed the workers\u00a0with fuel with the intention of setting them ablaze.<\/p>\n

The state\u2019s\u00a0 Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Godwin Nwatarali,\u00a0 told newsmen in Yenagoa\u00a0 that the workers\u00a0 comprised\u00a0 of NYSC\u00a0 members\u00a0 and civil servants.<\/p>\n

He said the mob also destroyed all the electoral materials meant for the election in ward 11, thereby making the exercise inconclusive.<\/p>\n

The INEC boss said the workers escaped into a forest before the police came to their rescue the next day.<\/p>\n

\u201cI cannot confirm the number of persons involved but I know that\u00a0 36 ad-hoc staff were posted to cover the election in Ekeremor ward 11 before the incident occurred,\u2019\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n

Nwatarali said the commission had\u00a0 rescheduled the inconclusive election\u00a0 for Friday appealed\u00a0 to the electorate to conduct themselves in an orderly manner.<\/p>\n

He also said INEC was working hard to vacate the court order given at the instance of\u00a0 Sen. Heiniken Lokpobiri stopping the senatorial re-run election.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
