Vice President John Mahama has announced a \u00a2150 million as part of the national strategic plan to support persons with HIV AIDS.<\/p>\n
The announcement comes at a time when the Global Fund hinted of its decision to withdraw its financial support for the treatment of the disease by 2013.<\/p>\n
There were fears the withdrawal could worsen the plight of people living with the disease but addressing this year\u2019s World AIDS Day celebration in Obuasi in the Ashanti Region, the vice president said government would make funds available to cater for infected persons.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we say we have defeated the disease and we will drop our gad that is when we will find that the battle is not over. This is already reflecting in less commitment to finding resources for the Global Fund.”<\/p>\n
On the contrary he said the Ghana government is fully committed in keeping the disease in check.<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2026Government has made a commitment of 150 million to the implementation of the national strategic plan 2011-2015. I wish to assure people living with HIV AIDS that government will make funding available to cover the 20,000 persons who are to join treatment this yea.<\/p>\n
