Manchester United<\/a> with the midfielder admitted that his recent decision to sign a new contract at Old Trafford was a “no-brainer”.<\/p>\nThe central midfielder recently signed a new deal and he believes the new young talent, such as Javier Hernandez and Chris Smalling, coming through means the club has a bright future ahead.<\/p>\n
“The young lads we have got at the moment, there is so much promise for the future, and yet we are still in a position to do something special this season,\u201d he told the Daily Mirror<\/em>.<\/p>\n“That’s what makes you so excited to be part of it. When the club came to me recently with a long-term contract, signing it was a no-brainer, because I can see what the future holds here – how exciting this team can become.<\/p>\n
“I can’t wait, honestly, for what lies ahead, and to be part of it. It excites me. It’s the great thing about this club and the manager – he never sits still.”<\/p>\n
United have moved within six games of a Premier League and Champions League double although many have pointed out that they are not as strong a side as the last United team to achieve the feat in 2008, which included Cristiano Ronaldo.<\/p>\n
Carrick, though, believes the greatness of this team will be measured in the number of trophies won.<\/p>\n
He added: “We haven’t won anything yet, and you know that here greatness is judged on what you win, so it’s difficult to rate this current team at the moment.<\/p>\n
“You have to win things and keep winning to be considered a great side – but if you take the European game against Schalke, it was one of our best performances in a long, long time.<\/p>\n
“When you take into account the circumstances, the fact it was a semi-final and normally how tight they are, then in that respect it shows you this current Manchester United team has real quality.<\/p>\n
“But it’s obvious we have to wait until the end of the season before we can put this team up against previous Manchester United sides.”<\/p>\n
