Stephen Ireland’s stuttered start at Newcastle mirrors that of Andy Carroll at Anfield, with the former Manchester City man now ruled out for the rest of the season with an ankle injury having come on in the second half at Blackpool last weekend.<\/p>\n

Steven Harper, Leon Best, Dan Gosling and Alan Smith are also sidelined for the Magpies but there is small hope of a return for long-term absentee Hatem Ben Arfa, who hasn’t played since October when he broke his leg under a challenge from Manchester City’s Nigel De Jong.<\/p>\n
