{"id":408422,"date":"2011-04-29T17:58:57","date_gmt":"2011-04-29T17:58:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/04\/29\/odinga-holds-talks-with-mugabe\/"},"modified":"2011-04-29T17:58:57","modified_gmt":"2011-04-29T17:58:57","slug":"odinga-holds-talks-with-mugabe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/04\/29\/odinga-holds-talks-with-mugabe\/","title":{"rendered":"Odinga Holds Talks With Mugabe"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"44.9047114876\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nation.co.ke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/450a559cnation180.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"The Nation (Nairobi)\" title=\"Visit The Nation (Nairobi)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>29 April 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>Nairobi \u2014 Prime Minister Raila Odinga has held talks with Zimbabwe President Mr Robert Mugabe in Harare.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Odinga arrived in the Zimbabwe capital Friday on his way to the city of Bulawayo, where he is to open the third National Conference of the Movement for Democratic Change.<\/p>\n<p>He arrived at State House, Harare for a courtesy call on President Mugabe shortly before 1pm Kenya time, accompanied by four Members of Parliament and one Orange Democratic Movement Secretariat official.<\/p>\n<p>President Mugabe warmly welcomed Mr Odinga at State House where they held talks that ran for more than an hour.<\/p>\n<p>Talks between the two leaders focused on the similarities in the history of Kenya and Zimbabwe, the struggle for the liberation of Africa, the continent&#8217;s place in world politics, reforms in the two countries and global affairs, touching on international trade and events in North Africa and the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>During the talks, Mr Odinga conveyed greetings from President Kibaki to President Mugabe.<\/p>\n<p>President Mugabe showed strong interest in political developments in Kenya, particularly the unveiling of the new constitution and said Zimbabwe looked up to Kenya for a model in reforming the constitution.<\/p>\n<p>He said Zimbabwe has always learnt from Kenya, from the liberation struggle to date, adding that he spent years studying the history of the Mau Mau war for independence.<\/p>\n<p>President Mugabe invited Mr Odinga to extend his stay in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Odinga said Kenya and Zimbabwe have links imposed by history and should work together towards reforms.<\/p>\n<p>The PM promised that Kenya would donate a book on constitution-making process to Zimbabwe to guide the Southern African nation in its own quest for constitutional reforms.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Odinga said the Kenyan process was extremely consultative and open and the country would be keen to share its experience with the people of Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n<p>The Prime Minister left Harare shortly after 2 pm Kenya time and is currently in Bulawayo for the MDC Congress.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<fieldset>\n<legend align=\"center\"><strong>More News on allAfrica.com<\/strong><\/legend>\n<\/fieldset>\n<p>AllAfrica &#8211; All the Time<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>Read this article:<br \/>\n<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/allafrica.com\/stories\/201104290864.html\" title=\"Odinga Holds Talks With Mugabe\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Odinga Holds Talks With Mugabe<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> 29 April 2011 Nairobi \u2014 Prime Minister Raila Odinga has held talks with Zimbabwe President Mr Robert Mugabe in Harare.
