About 6,497 projects are expected to be created from a total of 109 projects registered by the Ghana Investments Promotion Centre (GIPC) for the first quarter of this year.<\/p>\n

The projects, estimated at GH\u00a2567.66 million (US$378.44 million), recorded an increase of 0.93 percent compared to 108 registered projects in the corresponding quarter of 2010.<\/p>\n

George Aboagye, CEO of GIPC, disclosing this yesterday in Accra to journalists, said the total number of jobs to be created increased by 18.80 percent over 5,469 expected jobs recorded for the same period of 2010.<\/p>\n

There was however a decrease of 22.36 percent in the expected number of jobs to be created for expatriates from 653 for the first quarter of 2010 to 507 in the first quarter of this year.<\/p>\n

The service sector registered 37 projects with an estimated value of US$82.67 million, followed by the general trading, which recorded 29 projects that cost $18.79 million with manufacturing following with 12 projects valued at US$113.44 million.<\/p>\n

Export trade also registered 10 projects with an estimated value of US$3.07 million; Liaison and Tourism respectively recording 7 projects with an estimated value of US$1.65 million and GH GH\u00a245 million apiece.<\/p>\n

Building and construction recorded 6 projects with an estimated value of US$157.04 million while agriculture recorded one project estimated at US$0.33 million.<\/p>\n

India, with 19 projects, topped the list of countries with the highest number of registered projects. Britain and Belize topped the list of countries with the largest value of investments registered with an estimated investment of US$70.50 million.<\/p>\n

78.90 percent of all the projects registered are located in Greater Accra. Six regions \u2013 Ashanti, Central, Eastern, Northern, Greater Accra and Western, directly benefitted from the registered projects.<\/p>\n

The Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) component of the estimated value for the year was GH\u00a2527.63 million (US$351.75 million), representing 92.95 percent of the total estimated value and an impressive increase of 118.02 percent compared to GH\u00a2225.88 million (US$161.34 million) recorded for the same quarter of 2010.<\/p>\n

The total initial capital transfers for the newly-registered projects during the quarter amounted to GH\u00a2103.35 million equivalent to US$68.90 million. This was an increase of over 390 percent compared to GH\u00a220.81 million (US$14.86 million) recorded for the corresponding quarter of 2010.<\/p>\n

Of the 109 projects, 66 representing 60.55 percent were wholly-owned foreign enterprises valued at GH\u00a2175.07 million and this formed 30.84 percent of the total estimated value of the projects.<\/p>\n

The remaining 43 (39.45 percent) were joint ventures between Ghanaians and foreign partners valued at GH\u00a2392.58 million (US$261.72 million) \u2013 making up 69.16 percent of the total estimated value of projects registered.<\/p>\n

For the corresponding quarter of 2010, 63 wholly-owned foreign enterprises and 45 joint ventures were registered, valued at GH\u00a2217.83 million, equivalent to US$155.59 million) and GH\u00a245.59 million (US$32.57 million) respectively.<\/p>\n

During the fourth quarter of 2010, 49 wholly-owned foreign enterprises and 26 joint ventures were registered, which was valued at GH\u00a2147.13 million (US$105.09 million and GH\u00a251.50 million (US$36.79 million) respectively.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
