President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan yesterday restated the commitment of his administration to conduct free, fair and credible future elections in Nigeria.<\/p>\n

Speaking during an audience with a delegation of the Labour Party, LP, the President assured that \u201cwe will even do better in future elections,\u201d even as he thanked all political parties and Nigerians for giving the country a new image by conducting the last general elections in a credible manner.<\/p>\n

President Jonathan, who stressed that after the elections, Nigerians expected good governance from those they had elected, said \u201cwe must change the future of our country by managing our resources better and do things differently.\u201d<\/p>\n

President Jonathan, who called members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, who lost their lives during the violence as martyrs, said they died \u201cto save this country and open a new vista of political evolution in this country,\u201d and prayed that future elections in Nigeria will not witness any loss of lives and property.<\/p>\n

National Chairman of\u00a0 Labour Party, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu, who led the delegation which included the party\u2019s governorship candidate in Bayelsa State, Timi Alaibe, had congratulated President Jonathan on his resounding victory at the presidential polls which he described as a \u201cpan-Nigerian endorsement,\u201d noting that his party\u2019s support for the candidacy of the President had been proved right.<\/p>\n

He urged President Jonathan not to be distracted by the \u201cpremeditated post-election violence,\u201d but be encouraged to perform better while reaching out to those who are aggrieved.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will do everything within our powers and within the law to give you the necessary support,\u201d he assured the President.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
