{"id":405262,"date":"2011-04-28T17:24:07","date_gmt":"2011-04-28T17:24:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/04\/28\/wal-mart-brings-guns-back\/"},"modified":"2011-04-28T17:24:07","modified_gmt":"2011-04-28T17:24:07","slug":"wal-mart-brings-guns-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/04\/28\/wal-mart-brings-guns-back\/","title":{"rendered":"Wal-Mart brings guns back"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"61.7688864018\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/233d4d8fguns.gi_.top_.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"wal-mart, guns\" width=\"475\" height=\"307\" border=\"0\" class=\"cnnstoryImageFull\" \/><span><strong>After sharply cutting back on the number of stores that sold guns in 2006, Wal-Mart says they&#8217;ll be available again in about half its stores.<\/strong><\/span><span id=\"fb-recommend\"\/> <span>By <a href=\"mailto:parija.bhatnagar@turner.com\">Parija Kavilanz<\/a>, senior writer<\/span><span>April 28, 2011: 1:24 PM ET<\/span><\/p>\n<p>NEW YORK (CNNMoney) &#8212; Wal-Mart said Thursday that it is bringing guns back to many of its U.S. stores in an effort to lift slumping sales.<\/p>\n<p>In 2006, Wal-Mart (<a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/quote\/quote.html?symb=WMT&#038;source=story_quote_link\">WMT<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/magazines\/fortune\/fortune500\/2010\/snapshots\/2255.html?source=story_f500_link\">Fortune 500<\/a>), the world&#8217;s largest retailer stopped selling guns in the majority of its stores, blaming slow demand for those types of firearms.<\/p>\n<p>Wal-Mart currently sells rifles, shotguns and ammunition in about 1,300 stores in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Those firearms will now be available at about half of Wal-Mart&#8217;s 4,000 stores.<\/p>\n<p>The retailer doesn&#8217;t sell handguns in any of its stores, other than in Alaska.<\/p>\n<p>After suffering seven straight quarters of <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2011\/04\/27\/news\/companies\/walmart_ceo_consumers_under_pressure\/index.htm\">falling sales<\/a>, Wal-Mart says that it is adding more merchandise variety to stores and becoming <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2011\/04\/11\/news\/companies\/walmart_prices_products_changes\/index.htm\">more aggressive on prices versus its competitors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Reintroducing guns is part of the retailer&#8217;s push, Wal-Mart spokesman Lorenzo Lopez said.<\/p>\n<p>Lopez said Wal-Mart is focusing on stores in areas where hunting and fishing are popular activities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;We realized there is broader appeal for guns in some areas because of sporting needs,&#8221; said Lopez.<\/p>\n<p>He also said that the majority of the firearms sold at Wal-Mart are made in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Lopez said consumers will have to complete appropriate forms and background checks before they can buy guns at Wal-Mart.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2011\/04\/28\/news\/companies\/walmart_guns\/index.htm?section=money_topstories&#038;utm_source=feedburner&#038;utm_medium=feed&#038;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+rss%2Fmoney_topstories+%28Top+Stories%29#TOP\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i.cdn.turner.com\/money\/images\/bug.gif\" alt=\"To top of page\" border=\"0\" width=\"7\" height=\"7\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>First Published: April 28, 2011: 1:13 PM ET<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/233d4d8fguns.gi_.top_.jpg-150x150.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Follow this link:<br \/>\n<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/rss.cnn.com\/~r\/rss\/money_topstories\/~3\/LYQs01RLcos\/index.htm\" title=\"Wal-Mart brings guns back\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wal-Mart brings guns back<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> After sharply cutting back on the number of stores that sold guns in 2006, Wal-Mart says they&#8217;ll be available again in about half its stores.
