Gerard Houllier<\/a> will leave hospital at some point in the next 24 hours, after spending a week undergoing observations and tests.<\/p>\nThe Frenchman, who will not return to the sidelines for the remainder of the campaign, admitted himself into hospital after suffering chest pains, thought to be related to an existing heart condition.<\/p>\n
Assistant manager Gary McAllister will continue to take temporary charge of the Villa side as they prepare for a Midlands derby against West Brom this Saturday.<\/p>\n
McAllister told reporters: “Gerard is fantastic. The facts are, as we speak, Gerard has just come through a scan which has been very successful and the doctors are really pleased.<\/p>\n
“He is going to be discharged in the next 24 hours. It cannot get any better for Gerard in terms of what has happened this morning.<\/p>\n
“The good news from the scan has convinced the doctors he is fit enough to go home.\u201d<\/p>\n
Houllier was forced to undergo life-saving heart surgery when he was manager of Liverpool in October 2001.<\/p>\n
This latest health scare will throw the 63-year-old\u2019s future in management in doubt, as his long-term health remains an issue.<\/p>\n
“I am sure this is going to be the first question when he does come back,\u201d McAllister continued.<\/p>\n
“It is something he will be advised on by the specialists and the doctors.<\/p>\n
“But, knowing Gerard and his love of the game, he will want to come back.<\/p>\n
“He found his time away from football very difficult, his time with the French federation when it wasn’t a hands-on job like at a club.<\/p>\n
“He just loves being with players day to day. I think personally he will be back but there is still quite a bit to run.<\/p>\n
“He has still got a bit of recuperation and a lot of rest in the immediate period so he will be guided by the right people.<\/p>\n
“We are only eight days away from when he was first admitted and I don’t think anyone thought he would be at home.”<\/p>\n
