Xavi: Delighted with victory but less than impressed by Real’s tactics<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Xavi has criticised Real Madrid’s negative tactics after Barcelona took control of their UEFA Champions League tie.<\/p>\n

Barca prevailed 2-0 in the first leg of the eagerly-awaited European semi-final, with Lionel Messi’s brace giving them a lead to protect in next week’s return match at Camp Nou.<\/span><\/p>\n

There was nothing to choose between the sides in a fiery encounter until Pepe was sent early in the second half to leave Real with 10 men.<\/span><\/p>\n

But Barca playmaker Xavi insists the Catalan club were good value for their victory after approaching the game in a positive fashion.<\/span><\/p>\n

Xavi was less than impressed by Real’s aggressive gameplan and was delighted to take revenge for the recent Copa del Rey final defeat.<\/p>\n

“I don’t want to talk about Jose Mourinho. I only want to discuss Barcelona,” he told Marca<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Superior<\/h4>\n

“We put in a good performance and it’s a fair result. This is a victory for football.<\/p>\n

“We got the result that we deserved. We were again superior.<\/p>\n

“We’re a team that wants to play attacking football and have fun on the pitch.<\/p>\n

“They Real Madrid are just hoping that we’ll make mistakes. That worked in the Copa del Rey final, but not this time.”<\/p>\n

Xavi recognises that Barca still have work to do to secure a spot in the Wembley final and has urged his team-mates to stay focused ahead of the second leg.<\/p>\n

He said: “The Barca players are very happy with the triumph but we still have not completed our passage to Wembley.<\/p>\n

“The first test is passed but now it is necessary to finish the job at home.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
