The Dansoman branch of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service has launched investigations into the circumstances leading to the disappearance of a day-old baby girl at the Baanor Clinic at Latebiokorshie in Accra over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Three nurses and a security man have been arrested over the theft.<\/p>\n

The baby was alleged to have been stolen at the clinic, also known as Link Road Hospital, on the afternoon of April 24, 2011- a day after she was delivered.<\/p>\n

Sefa Kissi, father of the missing child who narrated the story to DAILY GUIDE, said his wife Elisabeth Kissi was rushed to the hospital on the morning of Saturday April 23, 2011, for delivery. \u201cMy wife gave birth to a bouncing baby girl but she was not fit to be discharged the same day, according to nurses.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said the next day after delivery, around 11.00am in the morning, an aunty to the wife, Sisi Ama, visited the baby and mother. \u201cMy wife was then asleep while the baby lay in a baby\u2019s cot near her when the aunt got to their room.\u201d<\/p>\n

The aggrieved father averred that his wife, when she woke up, requested that Sisi Ama get her some banana to eat, since she was not feeling for any food that moment.<\/p>\n

He said when the aunt returned, his wife was fast asleep but the baby was not in its cot. \u201cShe woke the mother up to find out where the child was but the mother could not tell specifically who had taken the baby. \u201cTo this day, hospital authorities have not been able to tell us anything about the whereabouts of the child.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said a complaint was lodged at the Dansoman Branch DOVVSU for investigations. Confirming the story, Chief Inspector Irene Oppong, Public Relations Officer in charge of DOVVSU, stated that three nurses on duty, together with a security man, had earlier been arrested for questioning but were on police enquiry bail.<\/p>\n

She said information gathered indicated that before the aunty of the victim went out to buy the banana, there was another woman sitting on one of the beds inside the room wearing a green attire.<\/p>\n

\u201cSisi Ama told us that after she had bought the banana at the roadside and was returning, the same woman in green met her and told her that the baby\u2019s mother had asked her to inform her (Sisi Ama) to buy Lucozade energy drink as well, so she went back to buy the drink.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said all efforts were being made to arrest the culprit.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
