Wayne Rooney<\/a> has admitted that his attempt to leave Manchester United<\/a> earlier in the season was a huge mistake and is grateful to the Old Trafford faithful for supporting him ever since.<\/p>\n

It had looked likely that the England striker was going to leave the Red Devils after handing in a transfer request, but he performed a dramatic u-turn by signing a new deal with the club.<\/p>\n

Rooney told The Mirror<\/em>: \u201cWhen I look back at it now, how wrong was I? Obviously, I understand I made a mistake.<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI admitted that and I apologised for that. I’ve wanted to try to prove myself all over again to the United fans. I feel I\u2019m doing that now.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Hopefully, now I\u2019m helping this team to be successful. It would be a great end to the season to be in a Champions League final and to win the title.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very grateful to the fans for supporting me and I\u2019m delighted with my form again.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI hope that I\u2019m proving myself through my displays. I\u2019m 100 per cent committed to this club.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n
With his Manchester United side on the verge of a third Champions League final in four years following their 2-0 semi-final win away to Schalke, Rooney is delighted with the team’s performances in Europe.<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cWe\u2019re one step closer to the Champions League final, and in a strong position in the Premier League<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re in a great position to get to the final and we\u2019re hoping to stay focused to get the job done at Old Trafford next week.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo get back to a final so soon after that one we lost in Rome<\/span><\/span> would be a great achievement<\/span><\/span> for us.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn 2009, we were just beaten by a better team in Barcelona.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey were a lot better than us on the night and deserved the victory<\/span><\/span>. Sometimes you just have to hold your hands up.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
