{"id":403459,"date":"2011-04-28T06:24:45","date_gmt":"2011-04-28T06:24:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/04\/28\/nam-economic-recovery-disappoints-says-bon\/"},"modified":"2011-04-28T06:24:45","modified_gmt":"2011-04-28T06:24:45","slug":"nam-economic-recovery-disappoints-says-bon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/04\/28\/nam-economic-recovery-disappoints-says-bon\/","title":{"rendered":"Nam Economic Recovery Disappoints, Says BoN"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"34.734375\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.namibian.com.na\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/59a688e4namibian180.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"The Namibian (Windhoek)\" title=\"Visit The Namibian (Windhoek)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jo-Mar\u00e9 Duddy<\/p>\n<p>28 April 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>Although the Namibian economy is faring &#8220;satisfactorily&#8221;, it is not doing as well as expected, the Bank of Namibia (BoN) said yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Keeping its repo rate unchanged at six per cent, the central bank said recovery faced challenges. &#8220;Of particular significance is the rising inflationary pressures that have started to build up,&#8221; BoN Deputy Governor Paul Hartmann said.<\/p>\n<p>Annual inflation quickened from 3,1 per cent in February to 3,8 per cent in March.<\/p>\n<p>A change in the [interest rate] stance at this stage would run the risk of unduly depressing domestic demand at a time when this demand is not the cause of recent inflation acceleration,&#8221; Hartmann said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the favourable speed of global economic recovery seen at the beginning of the year continued, &#8220;but [it] somehow lost momentum and gave a frail picture of the global recovery&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This outturn occurred against the backdrop of the unemployment rate remaining high and [the] persistent risk of economic overheating, particularly in the emerging market economies,&#8221; Hartmann said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the domestic economy continued to improved, &#8220;albeit at a slow pace&#8221;.
