LAGOS \u2014 Re-elected Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has described his victory as recognition of good governance, calling for the immortalisation of the Youth Corps members and other Nigerians, who\u00a0 lost their lives during the election period.<\/p>\n

Fashola made the call in his acceptance speech after his declaration as winner of the 2011 governorship contest in Lagos State by Prof. Bola Akinterinwa, Chief Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Lagos State.<\/p>\n

Fashola won with a wide marging of 1,509,113 votes ahead of his arch rival, Dr. Ade Dosunmu of the Peoples\u2019 Democratic Party, PDP, who polled 300,450.<\/p>\n

In his acceptance speech at his official residence in Marina on Lagos Island along with his Deputy Governor-elect, Mrs Adejoke\u00a0 Adefulire, Fashola who attributed the victory to hard work and recognition of good governance in the country,\u00a0 assured Lagos residents that he and his cabinet would not relent on the ongoing transformation of the state.<\/p>\n

According to him, \u201cIt is my pleasure and honour to accept the mandate and the very overwhelming mandate the people of Lagos state gave me, my deputy, our three senators and 24 House of Representatives as well as 40 House of Assembly members.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow that the electioneering is over; the task now is to consolidate good governance for which we are commonly known for. For me, this is a victory for Lagos; a victory for good governance and development of our people; I thank God for this great date; yesterday 26th of April was a day of triumph and victory for progressive governance; everything was possible yesterday but God made sure good governance prevailed.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
