\u201c[This] is what we call extensive entry into any capital in this country. The president landed about an hour and half ago, he still hasn\u2019t made it to the residency yet. He still has another hour to go.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is Tamale for you. All those who doubted, now know that Tamale has come to a standstill for president Mills,\u201d an obviously excited Anyidoho told Joy News\u2019 Seth Kwame Boateng.<\/p>\n

Earlier, some disgruntled Tamale youth group, livid with the High Court’s acquittal and discharge of 15 persons accused of murdering the Overlord of Dagbon Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II, had threatened the president not to step foot in Tamale.<\/p>\n

Even though they later apologized, the Nasara group within the NDC in Tamale also threatened to demonstrate against the president if he stepped foot in the region.<\/p>\n

They asserted, ex-first lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, a contender of the ruling party\u2019s flag-bearership race, is in a better stead to find the killers of the Ya-Na than the sitting president John Atta Mills who is also gunning for a second term.<\/p>\n

The litany of threats, apologies and hints of demonstrations heightened security fears about the president\u2019s visit to Tamale.<\/p>\n

But that appeared to have withered, as residents rained praises, swore unfettered allegiance and commitment to the president and his party. \u201cWe are very happy welcoming Prof Mills to Tamale. We are not surprised because Tamale is for NDC and we love Prof Mills. So that is why we are very very happy,\u201d one of the excited residents said.<\/p>\n

Motor bikes have taken over the streets honking, blaring in obvious excitement as they welcome the president to Tamale. Meanwhile, Northern Region Police Commander ASP George Tuffuor said the tour has so far been peaceful. \u201cThere is nothing to worry about,\u201d he assured, saying the threats by the youth groups should not be taken seriously.<\/p>\n

He said there is enough men on the ground to foil any attempt to disrupt the president\u2019s activities in Tamale.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
