{"id":401302,"date":"2011-04-27T08:52:36","date_gmt":"2011-04-27T08:52:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/04\/27\/us-photographer-wins-30k-prize\/"},"modified":"2011-04-27T08:52:36","modified_gmt":"2011-04-27T08:52:36","slug":"us-photographer-wins-30k-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/04\/27\/us-photographer-wins-30k-prize\/","title":{"rendered":"US photographer wins \u00a330k prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div readability=\"57.0320656227\"><span><span>27 April 2011<\/span> <span>Last updated at<\/span> <span>04:52 ET<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>US photographer Jim Goldberg has won this year&#8217;s Deutsche Borse photography prize for his exhibition Open See.<\/p>\n<p>Shown last year at the Photographers&#8217; Gallery in London, the exhibition documented the experiences of refugees and immigrants travelling from war-torn countries to make new lives in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Goldberg, of the Magnum Photos agency, was awarded the \u00a330,000 prize on Tuesday by broadcaster Miranda Sawyer.<\/p>\n<p>The prize is awarded annually to a photographer for their work in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>The other shortlisted photographers &#8211; Thomas Demand, Roe Ethridge and Elad Lassry &#8211; each received \u00a33,000.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The jury felt that any one of the four nominees could have been the winner,&#8221; said Brett Rogers of the Photographers&#8217; Gallery.<\/p>\n<p>Open See won the prize, he continued, because of its &#8220;timely and inventive approach to documentary practice.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>All the shortlisted works are on show at the Photographers&#8217; Gallery in London until 1 May.<\/p>\n<p>The gallery is currently housed at the Ambika P3 art space near Regent&#8217;s Park while its central London premises are being renovated.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Here is the original post:<br \/>\n<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/go\/rss\/int\/news\/-\/news\/entertainment-arts-13206046\" title=\"US photographer wins \u00a330k prize\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">US photographer wins \u00a330k prize<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> 27 April 2011 Last updated at 04:52 ET US photographer Jim Goldberg has won this year&#8217;s Deutsche Borse photography prize for his exhibition Open See.
