Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was full of praise for goalkeeper Manuel Neuer after watching his side beat Schalke 2-0 in the first leg of its Champions League semifinal, but conceded that the German international will join Bayern Munich this summer.<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford and put in a performance that clearly impressed the United boss, making numerous saves until Ryan Giggs finally breached the deadlock after 67 minutes.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, the Scot paid tribute to the goalkeeper and his heroics at the Veltins-Arena.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think, we know that Neuer is going to Bayern Munich but he was fantastic, it\u2019s one of the best performances I have seen against Manchester United,” said Ferguson.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the concentration and intensity of our play, the speed of our passing was absolutely excellent tonight. It was a really, really top performance.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor me, when Chicharito scored when he was offside, that told the players they could beat this goalkeeper Neuer and of course then Ryan Giggs scored and it\u2019s a marvellous result.”<\/p>\n

The result puts the Red Devils in pole position to secure a place in the Champions League final against either Real Madrid and Barcelona, and Sir Alex insisted he felt his side were peaking at the right time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe continuity of selection in these games gives me a good foundation, we have good experience and a good work rate and I\u2019ve good got options because Nani could have played but Valencia\u2019s form showed why he\u2019s played,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve got selection problems now but that\u2019s what we want we\u2019ve got important games coming up. There\u2019ll be a different team against Arsenal on Sunday but hopefully we\u2019ll get a result.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously the way I\u2019m going to look at it, I\u2019m going to get Sunday\u2019s game over with with, that\u2019s a very important game for us now.<\/p>\n

\u201cDepending on the result on Sunday, I could make two or three changes for the second leg because of Chelsea, the following Sunday.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s a seven day period that\u2019s crucial for the club but they are the kind of games the players are relishing and I think we\u2019re coming to a peak.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
