Barker ready for comeback<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

British middleweight champion Darren Barker says he is excited to take on Italy’s Domenico Spada at London’s Olympia on Saturday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Barnet fighter faces Spada for the vacant European middleweight title after 12 months out with a hip injury.<\/p>\n

“I’m really excited about it and eager to show the general public what I’m made of,” he told BBC London.<\/p>\n

“It’s fantastic. This was something I dreamt of as a kid, being top of the bill at a big venue like Olympia.”<\/p>\n

Barker won a gold medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games and is unbeaten in 22 professional fights.<\/p>\n

“Training has gone well. I’ve been out for a year now, and I’m really looking forward to getting back in there,” he added.<\/p>\n

Barker and Spada are ranked sixth and seventh respectively in the WBC rankings and Barker is not underestimating his opponent who has lost 3 of his 35 fights.<\/p>\n

“He’s my toughest opponent to date, definitely. He’s ranked highly for a reason,” he said.<\/p>\n

The winner of Saturday’s fight could have the chance of a World title fight later this year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
