{"id":398683,"date":"2011-04-26T09:11:10","date_gmt":"2011-04-26T09:11:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/04\/26\/virgin-active-to-buy-esporta-gyms\/"},"modified":"2011-04-26T09:11:10","modified_gmt":"2011-04-26T09:11:10","slug":"virgin-active-to-buy-esporta-gyms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/04\/26\/virgin-active-to-buy-esporta-gyms\/","title":{"rendered":"Virgin Active to buy Esporta gyms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div readability=\"54.2991115499\"><span><span>26 April 2011<\/span> <span>Last updated at<\/span> <span>05:11 ET<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Virgin Active is planning to take over its rival gym chain Esporta in a move that will lead to a big increase in the number of its number of outlets.<\/p>\n<p>Virgin, which is majority-owned by Sir Richard Branson, is offering \u00a377.5m for the 55 Esporta gyms, which it aims to add to its own 71 gyms across the UK.<\/p>\n<p>The move will need approval from the Office of Fair Trading (OFT).<\/p>\n<p>If passed, it will be the first major purchase since Virgin bought the Holmes Place gym chain almost five years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Virgin Active also reported results for the year to the end of December.<\/p>\n<p>Total revenues rose by 14% to \u00a3445.2m, while revenues from gyms open for 12 months or more increased by 9% to \u00a3416.8m.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the Esporta deal, Virgin Active owns 194 gyms worldwide.
