{"id":398408,"date":"2011-04-26T02:41:21","date_gmt":"2011-04-26T02:41:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/04\/26\/uganda-jail-officials-block-besigye-visitors\/"},"modified":"2011-04-26T02:41:21","modified_gmt":"2011-04-26T02:41:21","slug":"uganda-jail-officials-block-besigye-visitors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/04\/26\/uganda-jail-officials-block-besigye-visitors\/","title":{"rendered":"Uganda: Jail Officials Block Besigye Visitors"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"26.1112990528\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theeastafrican.co.ke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/173b6588tafrican180.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"The East African (Nairobi)\" title=\"Visit The East African (Nairobi)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>John Njoroge And Flavia Lanyero<\/p>\n<p>25 April 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>Kampala \u2014 Ugandan opposition leaders were Monday morning blocked from visiting their detained colleagues Kizza Besigye and Norbert Mao.<\/p>\n<p>The opposition leaders engaged in a stand off with Nakasongola Civil prisons officials for over two hours.<\/p>\n<p>Uganda People&#8217;s Congress (UPC) head Olara Otunnu and Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) official Anne Mugisha had tried visit Dr Besigye and Mr Mao who are detained in the prison.<\/p>\n<p>The two leaders landed in prison after repeatedly leading the twice weekly walk to work demonstrations.<\/p>\n<p>The Nakasongola prisons officials reportedly denied the UPC and FDC delegations access to the imprisoned leaders because prisoners are not allowed visitors over weekends and public holidays.<\/p>\n<p>Christians were Monday celebrating Easter holiday.
