Ghana midfielder Michael Essien could return to action by Saturday after an injury scare for the Chelsea player over the weekend.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chelsea\u2019s faint hopes of retaining the English title have been boosted by news that the injury sustained by Essien against West Ham United was confirmed as only a minor muscle pull in his left leg.<\/p>\n

The Ghanaian is potentially available for Saturday\u2019s derby against Tottenham Hotspur.<\/p>\n

Essien had pulled up after landing awkwardly in the second half and appeared initially to grip his left knee.<\/p>\n

That had prompted concern given the 28-year-old has missed significant parts of the past two seasons with cartilage and ligament problems in both knees.<\/p>\n

Chelsea currently lie second in the Premier League table, six points behind Manchester United.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
