Secret of youth: According to Nigella Lawson, the best weapon in the war against ageing is a curvy figure<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Some women rely on diet and exercise to stay young, while others swear by lotions and potions.<\/p>\n

But, according to Nigella Lawson, the best weapon in the war against ageing is a curvy figure.<\/p>\n

The 51-year-old is convinced that her voluptuous physique keeps her looking young and claims that she would \u2018age ten years straightaway\u2019 if she lost weight.<\/p>\n

And she insists she is happy with what she sees in the mirror, despite believing she is \u2018built like a shot-putter\u2019.<\/p>\n

She said: \u2018Of course, I have moments of doubt. All women have times thinking, \u201cMy God, I can\u2019t go out, my hips are so big today!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018But there\u2019s a range we are comfortable within and I don\u2019t like it when I go above that.<\/p>\n

\u2018I\u2019ve got no desire to go below it. If I lost 40lb, I would age ten years straightaway. That\u2019s my excuse!<\/p>\n

\u2018But you know women find it very easy to persecute themselves over their weight and whenever I\u2019ve said, \u201cI ought to lose a bit of weight,\u201d I can guarantee I\u2019ll put it on.<\/p>\n

\u2018I love food and I love cooking so therefore I never deprive myself. Thinness is fantastic for clothes, but I don\u2019t do fashion.\u2019<\/p>\n

Miss Lawson\u2019s figure has been much talked about since she appeared on Bondi beach in Australia last week covered up in a burkini \u2013 a full-body swimsuit designed to preserve the modesty of Muslim women.<\/p>\n

In an interview with an Australian magazine, she said: \u2018The only thin part of me is my waist, so I need\u00a0 to have that and my ankles and wrists on show.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018Frankly I\u2019m built like a shot putter! But you know it\u2019s not really a food thing; it\u2019s psychological. You either have the click or not the click. And it works or not.<\/p>\n

\u2018And so-called comfort eating is really discomfort eating.\u2019<\/p>\n

Miss Lawson added that her mother\u2019s struggles with her weight made her wary of denying herself food.<\/p>\n

She told Australia\u2019s Woman\u2019s Weekly magazine: \u2018When I was growing up my mother had eating disorders. Thinness mattered a lot to her. It was anorexia and a period of bulimia, I think, I can\u2019t be sure.<\/p>\n

\u2018She became a pusher of food and family meals were a source of great stress, an endless power struggle.<\/p>\n

\u2018I vowed I was never going to be\u00a0 like that.\u2019<\/p>\n

Miss Lawson is on holiday with her daughter Cosima, 17, in Australia following her guest appearance on the country\u2019s version of Masterchef.<\/p>\n
