Rwanda’s SC Kiyovu coach Jean Marie Ntagwabira has expressed desire to coach Mainland giants Simba SC, describing his negotiation with the Msimbazi Street club as ‘positive’.<\/p>\n

Recent reports suggested that Simba approached the former Amavubi coach, as the Dar es Salaam side intensifies search for a possible replacement of Zambian Patrick Phiri, whose fate at the club remained unclear.<\/p>\n

It emerged that the club’s executive committee member who met in Dar es Salaam this week are undecided on whether to drop Phiri or not. Ntagwabira confirmed the development to the New Times of Rwanda on Friday saying, “I have been approached by Simba and I have done my part,” the former APR and Atraco coach said.<\/p>\n

Other coaches who have been linked to the post include Cranes assistant coach Moses Basena, Oman based and former defender Talib Hilal, former Yanga coach Serbian Kostadin Papic.<\/p>\n

Ntagwabira is widely said to be Rwanda’s most successful and gifted coach. Born in 1974, Ntagwabira was the assistant coach of Amavubi Stars during the country’s maiden participation in the 2004 Africa Nations Cup.<\/p>\n

He later coached APR and Atraco winning four league titles, three Amahoro Cups and one Cecafa title. There has been different information from various Simba officials, hinting on the overhaul of the team’s technical bench, a plan that was also expected to affect some of the dependable players.<\/p>\n

The executive committee meeting was convened by Simba’s chairman, Ismail Aden Rage, to assess the team’s performance in both the Mainland Premier League and the African Champions League the previous season and set out strategies for acquisition of new players for the coming season.<\/p>\n

Phiri has so far been the club’s most successful coach in recent years but his failure to guide it to successful title retention seems to have rubbed the club the wrong way.<\/p>\n

Simba unceremoniously failed to defend the Mainland Premier League title during the closing stages in which archrivals, Yanga, pip the former to the top honour on goal difference.<\/p>\n

The Msimbazi Street side also saw its attempt to excel in the African Champions League hit rock bottom after losing to the tournament’s defending champions, TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) by 6-3 goals aggregate in the first round.<\/p>\n
