WARRI-THE last may not have been heard about the April 9, 2011 NASS election in the Uvwie, Sapele and Okpe Federal Constituency as one of the candidates alleged the burning of INEC ballot boxes.<\/p>\n

The ACN candidate in the election and former Delta State Education Commissioner, Dr. (Mrs.) Veronica Ogbuagu in a letter dated April 23, 2011 to the Electoral Officer, INEC in Uvwie Local Government Area claimed that some thugs snatched and burnt INEC ballot boxes in Ugboroke Ward 6, Unit 1 and II in Uvwie Local Government Area during the April 9, 2011 NASS election.<\/p>\n

According to her, suspected thugs snatched and burnt INEC ballot boxes where her party was coasting to victory and called for a total cancellation of the NASS election that purportedly took place in the three Local Government Areas as a result of alleged abnormalities.<\/p>\n

She wrote thus; \u201cWe wish to place on record that twenty seven INEC ballot boxes were snatched during the election, and four of these boxes were burnt. A situation where armed PDP thugs were used to intimidate and beat up other party agents at gun point while security men tuned the other way is highly disturbing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSome policemen took extra clothes which they quickly changed into when they sighted P.D.P thugs and their guns. In other polling units, our agents reported that the police men took to their heels on sighting the thugs, while in Ebrumede, ward 7 unit 4, the police woman posted there seriously canvassed and told the electorate to vote and thumb print for P.D.P. At this point in time, one may be forced to suggest that all political parties should own and train their thugs for election purposes,\u201d the ACN candidate in the election stated.<\/p>\n

According to her; \u201cWe should do away with the police if the police cannot protect our votes and lives, let the Nigerian police remain in their stations and stay away from polling units. Most of ACN and DPP\u2019s agents were driven away from their polling units. We observed that PDP\u2019s thugs and agents signed the INEC results on behalf of other party agents. Most statement of results were mutilated. The same story was reported in Okpe and Sapele Local Government Areas respectively.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are therefore calling for a total cancellation of the NASS election that purportedly took place in the three Local Government Areas in view of the aforementioned abnormalities. This is one election that could be described as a complete failure and is only fair to have it cancelled and a fresh re \u2013 run conducted.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
