National Coordinator of the Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, Otunba Gani Adams, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to put in place good structures that would prevent a re-occurrence of the bombings that have marred the general elections, adding that such acts are enough to rubbish whatever good works he may have achieved.<\/p>\n

He also stressed the need for politicians to refrain from statements capable of inciting violence during and after the elections noting that the unity of Nigeria should not be threatened.<\/p>\n

He also lamented the death of\u00a0corps members \u00a0who were victims of the violenc and called on Northern leaders to bring the situation under control.<\/p>\n

According\u00a0 to Adams, \u201clet me plead with the president to, as a matter of urgency, put in place
structures that would prevent the kind of bombings in Suleja and Maiduguri. Such acts can take away all the gains of the last 12 years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking with Vanguard on the conduct of the elections so far and the post-election violence that has trailed it, he commended President Jonathan on the success of the Presidential and National Assembly elections.<\/p>\n

Adams said by the conduct of the elections, which has been hailed across the country and beyond, as free and fair, the President has demonstrated that he can keep to his promise.<\/p>\n

Said he: \u201cYou will remember that the president promised to conduct free, fair and credible elections. Towards achieving this, he ensured that money budgeted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was released to it on time to enable the electoral umpire make adequate preparation towards the election. Last Saturday\u2019s elections have proved to all that he is a man we can trust.\u201d<\/p>\n

The OPC leader said though the elections witnessed some hitches in some parts of the country, the general consensus have been that it was free and a fair in most states.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe elections were a good departure from the past whereby politicians demonstrated a do-or-die attitude,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo doubt, Mr. President deserves applause and must be encouraged to continue the promotion of truly democratic ethos. We have no doubt in our mind that he will continue with the good work he has started, and by the end of the general election, he would be remembered, not just as one of the presidents of theFederal Republic of Nigeria, but as the President who presided over a truly free and fair election in Nigeria.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
