{"id":396119,"date":"2011-04-25T09:26:29","date_gmt":"2011-04-25T09:26:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/04\/25\/malian-president-visits-today\/"},"modified":"2011-04-25T09:26:29","modified_gmt":"2011-04-25T09:26:29","slug":"malian-president-visits-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/04\/25\/malian-president-visits-today\/","title":{"rendered":"Malian President Visits Today"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"94.9897035881\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.analystliberia.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/7591e951analyst180.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"The Analyst (Monrovia)\" title=\"Visit The Analyst (Monrovia)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>25 April 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>A Foreign Ministry gazette issued late Sunday says President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf will later this morning proceed to the Roberts International Airport (RIA) to welcome visiting Malian President Amadou Toumani Toure and entourage.<\/p>\n<p>The gazette said the Malian leader is on a two-day official trip to Liberia to hold talks with President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and select officials of her administration on matters of mutual interest to Liberia, Mali, and the ECOWAS subregion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Expectations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The two leaders are expected to discuss issues surrounding the security of the subregion, especially the growing economic burden being imposed by the influx of Ivorian refugees.<\/p>\n<p>The Liberian and Malian heads of state and governments are also expected to look critically at the security threats posed by the unrestrained movement of armed elements across the borders in the wake of the mitigation of the recent armed conflict in neighboring Ivory Coast.<\/p>\n<p>Liberia and Mali are located on the west and north of Ivory Coast \u2013 in that order \u2013, two border regions, which reports say got the fiercest fighting between loyalists of ousted president Laurent Gbagbo\u2019s and those of incumbent President Allasane Ouattari.<\/p>\n<p>The Liberian and Malian chief executives are also expected to discuss mutual cooperation aimed at promoting trade and commerce in order to boost their individual economies.<\/p>\n<p>President Toure\u2019s visit to Liberia may as well be a reciprocal visit as President Sirleaf had visited Bamako twice since coming to power five years ago.<\/p>\n<p>The Liberian leader\u2019s first visit to Mali was in October 2006, barely nine months after swearing an oath to lead Liberia from the fringes of smoldering guns to peace and the economic security.<\/p>\n<p>The Liberian leader used the visit to Bamako, during which she received 2006 the \u201cAfrica Prize for the Eradication of Hunger Award\u201d, to hold talks with the presidents of Mali, Senegal, Nigeria, and South Africa\u2019s legendary leader, Nelson Mandela.<\/p>\n<p>In June last year, the Liberian leader made her second trip to Bamako, this time to discuss the funding of the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank.<\/p>\n<p>The Liberian leader also got an invitation to travel to Bamako once again in October 2010 to receive the African Editors Forum\u2019s 2010 prestigious award for being the first sitting president in Africa to provide free environment for the media to operate. The president however designated Vice President Joseph Boakai to take the trip.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Protocol<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Foreign Ministry gazette said President Sirleaf is looking forward to Mr. Toure\u2019s visit and has already extended the Malian leader her administration\u2019s best wishes and \u201can enjoyable stay in Liberia\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>According to the gazette, the Malian leader and delegation will be touching down at RIA late this morning and will be met upon arrival by the Liberian presidential delegation headed by President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.<\/p>\n<p>The two leaders will then proceed to the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex (SKDSC) following a brief airport ceremony during which the Malian head of state will be presented the symbols of Liberia\u2019s peace and amity \u2013 kola nuts, white chicken and rice.<\/p>\n<p>At the SKDSC, the two leaders will participate in the World Malaria Day Programme.<\/p>\n<p>Later on in the afternoon, the Malian leader will proceed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Capitol Hill to hold a t\u00eate-\u00e0-t\u00eate with President Sirleaf.<\/p>\n<p>Concomitantly, counterpart ministers of the Liberian and Malian governments will proceed to various locations to hold separate talks relevant to their areas of assignment.<\/p>\n<p>President Toure\u2019s t\u00eate-\u00e0-t\u00eate with President Sirleaf will be followed by a meeting with the diplomatic corps later in the evening at the Cape Hotel in Mamba Point, which will be followed by a dinner in the Malian leader\u2019s honor, a gowning ceremony conducted by Liberian traditional chiefs, and an investiture into the Liberian humane order that is expected to last well into the evening.<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow, President Toure will visit the Japanese Friendship Maternity Hospital located in the complex of the John F.
