Policemen from Utako Division and the FCT Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) in the early hours of Saturday raided Jabi park, after receiving information of arms deposit in the place.<\/p>\n
A witness, Yinusa Suleman, said around 3 am, well-armed police detectives stormed the park and arrested suspicious persons.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey searched buses as well as various parts of the park and later left with some persons,\u201d the witness stated.<\/p>\n
He said some decent union officials were also taken away, adding that they have gone to Utako Police Division to demand for their release.<\/p>\n
Responding, Utako Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent Usman K. Umar, said the police acted on security reports that dangerous weapons were inside the park, ahead of the Easter celebration.<\/p>\n
He said SARS policemen and those from his division mobilised and raided the area, finding daggers, knives and other dangerous weapons, adding that the police arrested those found with the weapons.<\/p>\n
According to him, the raid was necessary to avoid tension in the environs as well as to ensure that residents enjoy their Easter holiday without harassment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
