The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has condemned in the spate of killings and other manifestations of violent criminal activities across the country.<\/p>\n

In a statement by its Director, Public Affairs and Communication, Muhammad Nasir Ladan, the commission noted that the post-election violence unleashed on targets in Sokoto, Adamawa, Bauchi, Kaduna, Gombe, Kano and other states had led to the loss of lives and destruction of many innocent Nigerians.<\/p>\n

The commission described\u00a0 this flagrant violation of the right to life and other rights of law abiding Nigerians\u00a0 as inhuman, morally despicable and unacceptable under the present democratic dispensation.
It said: \u201cAll persons who feel aggrieved about the outcome the elections should seek redress through well established constitutional avenues and the provisions of the Electoral Act.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe call on all stakeholders, particularly politicians to respect the code of conduct they signed before the elections, which enjoined them to take legal steps against perceived electoral irregularities, rather than engage in or instigate violence against innocent citizens.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also call on law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of all persons and institutions throughout the country and bring to book the perpetrators of these acts of violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
