Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp says Manchester City are not the only side his players should be keeping an eye on, as he warned his players that Liverpool are still capable of pinching fifth place from Spurs.

The north Londoners were left disappointed after Albion hit a late equaliser to secure a 2-2 draw at White Hart Lane, whilst Kenny Dalglish’s Liverpool trounced Birmingham 5-0 at Anfield.

Many have commented on the battle between the north Londoners and Roberto Mancini’s Manchester City in the hunt for the final Champions League place, but Redknapp believes Spurs should also be keeping an eye on the Merseyside team as they push for a Europa League spot.

“Liverpool aren’t out of it, don’t write Liverpool off, they’re coming strong,” told a cautious Redknapp to Sky Sports.

“As I’ve said all along, Manchester City are obviously favourites at the start of the year, I thought they were the team that could maybe win the championship this year, so it’s going to be difficult to get above them. But Liverpool are pushing now.

“We’ve just got to keep going and see where it takes us, we’ll finish as high as we can and if we make that fourth spot it’d be fantastic. If not we can come and try again next year.”

In terms of the game in London, Redknapp believed his team should have taken all the points, but a fantastic strike from Simon Cox denied Spurs a vital win.

“I thought we played OK,” Redknapp said.

“We went one down in the first couple of minutes and then we came back strong and played some great stuff and looked like we were in good shape to win the game at 2-1.

“Then in the 81st minute, or whatever it was, the lad Simon Cox came on and hit a worldly of a goal and you won’t see many better strikes than that and what can you do, he’s hung it right in the top corner from 25-yards out and that was it really.”

West Brom went into the lead after just five minutes with Peter Odemwingie’s strike beat Heurelho Gomes. Spurs’ misery was extended as Benoit Assou-Ekotto was forced to come off after picking up a knock during the goal.

“We went one down, but as we always do we came back, we never lay down,” said a resurgent Redknapp.

“I thought it was a bad start for us, but we came back strong and put ourselves in front and had opportunities to go on and win it, but full credit to West Brom, they kept playing, they were lively, they were dangerous on the counter-attack and in the end, as I say, it was a great goal and there’s little you can do about a shot when someone hits a shot like that.”

The game’s goals all brought quality with them and Jermain Defoe managed to claim his 100th Premier League goal, and also his 100th in all competitions for Spurs, much to the delight of his boss.

“It’s great for him, fantastic for him. Let’s hope there’s plenty more to come,” Redknapp enthused.

“They Spurs’ goals were good and their first goal was a good one as well, he’s come inside on his Odemwingie left-foot. It’s difficult to win games. Every game teams come here, they work hard, they’re good sides, they’re well organised and they West Brom were dangerous, they had pace on the break. But at 2-1 up I thought we had control of the game, but as I say we got hit by a fantastic goal and that was it.”
