He further noted the Government&#8217;s due role in the economy, besides issuing the requisite proclamations and regulations in the sector among others. Moreover, Mr. Mogos pointed out that over 20,000 trade permits were issued over the past 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, the head of the Africa Desk in the Ministry, Ms. Zeferework Fisehaie , explained that the Government took the necessary measures towards making external trade play vital role through issuing, among other things, directives aimed at creating conducive grounds for export-oriented production. She also highlighted the tasks accomplished in enabling nationals across the nation obtain trade permits, encourage merchants to take part in import-export ventures as part of the overall initiatives towards creating conducive grounds for a vibrant foreign trade. Ms. Zeferework went on to highlight that over 55% of the country&#8217;s export is geared to Italy, the UAE, Sudan, China, Saudi Arabia and Taiwan.<\/p>\n<p>The head of the National Standards Institution, Mr. Beyene Misgina, on his part said that about 440 standards have already been applied and that others are on the pipeline of going into effect. He also outlined that the Institution undertakes periodic visits to establishments so as to oversee the implementation of directives and enforce the set standards.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, Mr. Akberom Tedla, secretary general of the Eritrean National Chamber of Commerce, explained the origin and development of trade and investment in Eritrea, as well as the Chamber&#8217;s role in the process.
