THE 2012 Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, has accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of stealing his idea of setting up \u00a0a Northern Development Authority (NDA) during his 2008 electioneering campaign.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nana Akufo-Addo said in view of the yawning development and the rising poverty levels in three regions of the north, he thought it wise to set up the Northern Development Fund when voted into office, so as to bridge the poverty gap between the north and the south.<\/p>\n

But on realizing that most right-thinking northerners had bought into his development idea, his opponents in the NDC, who hitherto made mockery of his decision, also cut and pasted the same idea under a different name. \u00a0<\/p>\n

The NDC, then opposition, he noted, also came out with the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA), and could only boast of organizing conferences since implementing the authority, thus failing to execute the main agenda it promised Ghanaians<\/p>\n

Nana Akufo-Addo maintained that he was the originator of the entire idea as contained in the party\u2019s 2008 campaign manifesto, and that the NDC was good at copy work.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe NDC also came out during the heat of the elections to promise northerners of the Savanna Accelerated Authority, SADA, which is my original idea of the Northern Development Authority being changed for SADA\u201d, he remarked.<\/p>\n

Nana Akufo-Addo made the disclosure in\u00a0Nator, a community in the Nadowli West Constituency\u00a0of the Upper West Region, during his six-day listening tour of the Upper West Region. \u00a0<\/p>\n

He reminded Ghanaians that the NDC had reneged on its litany of promises to develop the north through SADA, which had become a rubber stamp.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0Nana Addo said the NDC government had not been able to implement a single programme, through SADA, in the northern sector of the country to improve on the living standards of the people, indicating that the NPP, under his regime, would change this trend.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He called on the people to vote for the NPP during the 2012 elections for the speedy implementation of the Northern Development Authority since the one promised by the NDC had become a fiasco and all could bear testimony to its futility.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The NPP flag-bearer called on the NDC government to make SADA workable instead of holding series of meetings and seminars.<\/p>\n

In the Nadowli constituency, the NPP presidential candidates called on the voting population to vote for the NPP parliamentary candidate for Nadowli West, Dr. R.D. Boye Bandie, for total development since the incumbent NDC parliamentary candidate, Alban Sumana Bagbin, over the past 20 years in parliament, was unable to solve the many developmental challenges they were faced with.<\/p>\n

Dr. Boye Bandie, on his part, promised to unseat\u00a0\u00a0 Alban Bagbin, who is also the Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, since he had failed to address the problem of his constituents.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, some NDC loyalists in the constituency have thrown their support behind the NPP parliamentary candidate, claiming the incumbent MP had taken them for granted.<\/p>\n

A section of them who spoke to DAILY GUIDE<\/em><\/strong> during the NPP\u2019s flag-bearer\u2019s visit threatened to vote skirt and blouse, claiming Mr. Bagbin was beginning to insult their conscience.<\/p>\n

Nana Akufo-Addo, who is scheduled to tour all the nine constituencies in the Upper West Region, has already visited seven constituencies \u2013 Wa central, Wa East, Nadowli\u00a0East, Nadowli\u00a0West, Jirapa, Lambusie Karni and Lawra Nandom.\u00a0<\/p>\n
