Aide to the Rawlingses, Kofi Adams, has stated that former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings does not necessarily need the support of close friends to realize her ambition of leading the NDC to election 2012 and hopefully, becoming president of Ghana.<\/p>\n
This was in reaction to suggestions that some party executives like Mr Ade Coker, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Mr Tony Aidoo, Sherry Ayittey and a host of others who are close to the Rawlings\u2019 seem to have deserted them.<\/p>\n
However, Kofi Adams maintained that since Nana Konadu\u2019s ambition to lead the NDC is not about friends, but rather, \u201cabout solving the problems that face the party and country\u201d, she does not need the support of these friends who do not believe in what she believes in.<\/p>\n
He was speaking in an interview with Xfm 95.1; an Accra based private radio station.<\/p>\n
Citing the example of Jesus Christ whose apostle betrayed him, Mr Adams said Nana Konadu does not \u201cexpect everybody to support her,\u201d saying, \u201cit is not a contest of friends where you say, \u2018you are my friend, so I am joining you\u2026 You cannot be forced into supporting somebody\u201d.<\/p>\n
Besides, Mr Adams indicated that supporting either the sitting President or Mrs Rawlings\u2019 bid is the right of the individual person, however adding that Ministers who have declared support for President Mills are only protecting their jobs.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor many of them, you would see that they are up there to protect their jobs, you cannot take that away from them\u201d.<\/p>\n
Mr Adams opined that Nana Konadu is not the least perturbed about these developments as \u201cshe is strategizing according to what is on the ground\u201d. He said Mrs Rawlings is enjoying massive supports from the constituency delegates and the regional executives, adding that, \u201cthat is what she is focused on\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
