Striking workers of the Ghana News Agency (GNA) are blaming the National Media Commission (NMC) for failing to resolve their concerns relating to their beleaguered General Manager, Nana Apau Dua.<\/p>\n
The workers on Monday April 18 began a sit-down strike to protest Mr Apau Dua\u2019s continous stay in office despite being asked to proceed on leave by the board of the Agency.<\/p>\n
The workers claim Nana Apau Dua has mismanaged the Agency and cares less about workers’ poor conditions of service. The board of the agency asked the General Manager to proceed on leave last week following incessant agitations from workers.<\/p>\n
However, the NMC issued a statement faulting the board for its action.
Mr Apau Dua subsequently returned to his office on Monday, on the orders of the NMC. But the workers have kicked against his return. Speaking to Citi News, the General Secretary to the Communication workers union at GNA, Philip Attuquaye said the NMC does not have matters concerning the GNA at heart.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are on a sit-down strike because the General Manager is back saying that he has a letter from the NMC to assume duty. meanwhile the Acting Manager is also acting with the mandate from the board and so we don\u2019t even know who to work with\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Workers are saying that they don\u2019t want Mr Apau Dua so he should leave. Upon hearing the news workers met and they decided to lay down their tools because the NMC does not have the agency at heart\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
