AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP)\u2014Rickie Fowler<\/a> might have taken the whole Masters green
\nthing a bit too far.<\/p>\n

The young player known for his colorful outfits dressed in all green for his
\nfirst official round in the Masters, nearly blending in with the grass as he
\nmade his way around Augusta National.<\/p>\n

Fowler wore matching green pants, shirt, belt and hat for his Masters debut,
\nthough for a while it looked as if perhaps he should have spent more time on his
\ngame than picking out his outfit.<\/p>\n

Fowler was 2-over before making birdies on four of the last five holes to
\nfinish with a 2-under 70 that put him five strokes off the lead.<\/p>\n

\u201cDefinitely a nice way to finish,\u201d said Fowler, who played with leader
\nRory McIlroy<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m looking forward to getting into tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n

Golf fans can look forward to another fashion statement from Fowler, who
\nsaid he plans to wear blue with stripes in the second round, green again on
\nSaturday, and his traditional Oklahoma State orange on Sunday.<\/p>\n

One thing he won\u2019t be doing is wearing his hat backward. He tried that in
\nthe interview room before the tournament, only to be told by a Masters official
\nto turn it around before he answered any questions.<\/p>\n

Even a Masters rookie knows to listen when the other people in green speak.<\/p>\n

\u201cAround here, it\u2019s forwards,\u201d Fowler said.<\/p>\n

CLARK\u2019S PAIN: Tim Clark<\/a> made it through the Par 3 contest. Then he made it
\nthrough the first round without embarrassing himself.<\/p>\n

Whether he can nurse his ailing elbow through another round, won\u2019t be known
\nuntil Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not sure if I can play tomorrow,\u201d Clark said after shooting an
\nopening 1-over 73. \u201cIt\u2019s pretty bad.\u201d<\/p>\n

The South African has been hurting since returning from Honolulu in January
\nand waking up with a throbbing elbow after his first night at home. A cortisone
\nshot didn\u2019t help and he pulled out of Pebble Beach the next month after trying
\nto swing on the practice range.<\/p>\n

The injury has baffled doctors, though Clark said earlier in the week that
\nthey now believe it might be caused by a pinched nerve in his neck. He\u2019s taking
\nanti-inflammatory medication, but Clark said it has done little to help the
\npain.<\/p>\n

Clark said he wouldn\u2019t even try to play anywhere else, but attempted to gut
\nit out because this is the Masters. And, while 73 was not the score he was
\nhoping for, it wasn\u2019t as bad as he thought it might have been.<\/p>\n

Still, he\u2019s waiting until Friday to decide whether he can go on.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve still got a chance here,\u201d he said. \u201cBut if it gets to a point where
\nI can\u2019t swing, I just can\u2019t swing.\u201d<\/p>\n

QUARTERBACK RORY: Rory McIlroy still makes his home in Northern Ireland, but
\nhis time in America is starting to turn him into a football fan. He loves the
\nNew York Jets<\/a>, and McIlroy is so intrigued that he even bought a football this
\nweek.<\/p>\n

McIlroy said he went to the mall Wednesday night to buy a football and
\ntossed it around to kill time.<\/p>\n

Someone asked if he knew how to throw a spiral.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, it\u2019s the thumb down, isn\u2019t it? I\u2019m still learning,\u201d he replied.<\/p>\n

Mark Sanchez can rest easy at the moment.<\/p>\n

STAR STRUCK: For once, Ross Fisher<\/a> didn\u2019t mind having the first tee time.<\/p>\n

Fisher, Jonathan Byrd<\/a> and Sean O\u2019Hair<\/a> were on hand to watch Arnold Palmer<\/a>
\nand Jack Nicklaus kick off the Masters on Thursday morning. The two, who have 10
\ngreen jackets between them, hit their ceremonial tee shots just after daybreak.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a special treat for the three of us to see two legends like Arnie
\nand Jack get it under way,\u201d Fisher said. \u201cThat was pretty special to be here
\nand witness that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Palmer, the 81-year-old with four green jackets, hit his shot to the base of
\nthe hill in the fairway. Then came Nicklaus, a six-time winner who turned 71 in
\nJanuary. He pounded his tee shot down the middle, some 30 yards past Palmer.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not often you get two legends of the game standing on the same tee
\nplaying in the same group,\u201d Fisher said. \u201cAnd they showed us that they\u2019ve
\nstill got it. Sean thought that Arnie actually knocked it past him on the first
\nhole.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fisher got off to a rough start with bogeys on two of his first four holes.
\nBut he closed the front nine with four birdies, and finished at 3-under 69.<\/p>\n

HARRINGTON HURTING: Padraig Harrington<\/a> had done everything he could to get
\nready for the Masters, and then did just a little too much. Just a few minutes
\ninto his practice routine Thursday morning, the Irishman was swinging
\nleft-handed to loosen up when he tweaked something in his neck. Suddenly, he was
\nnot able to move to his right.<\/p>\n

And then it was time to tee off. He shot a 77, matching his highest score
\never at Augusta.<\/p>\n

\u201cI nearly pulled out before I started,\u201d Harrington said. \u201cI wanted to
\npull out, but I wouldn\u2019t. That\u2019s just not my nature. I would always have a go.
\nBut it wasn\u2019t much fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

He doesn\u2019t know if he will play Friday, although the three-time major
\nchampion suspects he will. Harrington says he has never failed to finish a
\ntournament unless he misses the cut or gets disqualified.<\/p>\n

Harrington has coped with the occasional neck pain for the last eight years,
\nalthough he says he has it under control. As for swinging from the other side,
\nhe says he usually does that as part of his warm-up routine.<\/p>\n

\u201cI prepared very well. I was in good form. But it was not to be,\u201d
\nHarrington said. \u201cI swing left-handed when I\u2019m warming up before I hit shots.
\nI\u2019ll keep swinging left-handed, but I won\u2019t swing as hard next time.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p>\n
