ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP)\u2014All charges were dismissed against Denver Broncos<\/a>
\ndefensive end Elvis Dumervil<\/a>(notes)<\/a><\/span> over an altercation with a parking lot attendant
\nbefore a game last season.<\/p>\n

Judge Johnny Barajas signed the order dismissing the case in Denver County
\nCourt. Dumervil had been set to go on trial Tuesday on charges of assault and
\ndisturbing the peace.<\/p>\n

Dumervil, who missed all of last season with a torn chest muscle a year
\nafter leading the NFL in sacks, was cited after the incident at Invesco Field
\nbefore the Broncos\u2019 game against Oakland on Oct. 24. He forgot his player
\ncredential and wasn\u2019t allowed into the stadium despite showing his driver\u2019s
\nlicense.<\/p>\n

Dumervil\u2019s lawyer, Harvey Steinberg, said he had been optimistic all along
\nthat prosecutors would drop the case.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was my position he never should have been charged, and the only reason
\nhe was is because he\u2019s a professional athlete,\u201d Steinberg told The Associated
\nPress on Thursday night. \u201cAthletes always get treated worse, not better. He had
\nthis (unfairly) hanging over his head.\u201d<\/p>\n

Both the old regime of Josh McDaniels and the new one with John Elway and
\nJohn Fox have hailed Dumervil as a model citizen and consummate professional.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously he was very, very happy\u201d to be exonerated, Steinberg said.
\n\u201cThis was tremendously embarrassing for him to be charged when it was our
\nposition he had done nothing wrong. To be completely vindicated and have
\nprosecutors say, \u2018We can\u2019t prove this case,\u2019 and dismiss it, he was thrilled.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p>\n
