{"id":352033,"date":"2011-03-31T08:47:27","date_gmt":"2011-03-31T08:47:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/03\/31\/matavesi-signed-by-racing-metro\/"},"modified":"2011-03-31T08:47:27","modified_gmt":"2011-03-31T08:47:27","slug":"matavesi-signed-by-racing-metro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/03\/31\/matavesi-signed-by-racing-metro\/","title":{"rendered":"Matavesi signed by Racing Metro"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"67.883948756594\">\n<div readability=\"66\">\n                    <span><br \/>\n  <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/1ecf6da2sh_matavesi.jpg.jpg\" width=\"226\" height=\"170\" alt=\"Josh Matavesi\" \/><\/p>\n<p>    Matavesi has five caps for Fiji<br \/>\n  <\/span><br \/>\n<!-- Empty - Wide embedded hyper -->                      <\/p>\n<p>Cornish full-back Josh Matavesi has left Exeter Chiefs to join French Top 14 side Racing Metro.<\/p>\n<p>The 20-year-old, who spent two and a half years at Sandy Park, has been drafted in to replace injured Racing stand-off Martin Hernandez.<\/p>\n<p>Matavesi said: &#8220;If I&#8217;m honest, I don&#8217;t really want to go because of the boys and that.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But I need to play rugby if I want to improve and opportunities like this don&#8217;t come along very often.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Matevesi started his rugby career at Mounts Bay while still a student in Truro, before moving to the Chiefs in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>In December 2008, he was called up to the England Under-20 squad but quickly decided to represent Fiji, his father&#8217;s home country, instead.<\/p>\n<p>Matavesi made his debut for Fiji in November 2009 and has subsequently won five caps, but opportunities at Exeter have been limited.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8220;I haven&#8217;t played a huge amount this season and you just want to be playing at a young age.
