However, it was Ghana who had the first clear chance of the game. Dominic Adiyiah had a golden opportunity to break the deadlock, but he kicked the ball right into the arms of Goalkeeper Joe Hart.

This boosted the confidence of the West Africans, who began to assert themselves, with their fans chanting a resounding ‘Ghana Oseeyie’, which reverberated through the magnificent new Wembley Stadium.

England forward Stewart Downing had a chance similar to that of Adiyiah’s and like his Ghanaian counterpart, he wasted it by blasting the ball wide.

Richard ‘Olele’ Kingston made a fine save when he tipped Ashley Young’s goal-bound shot over the bar, while Asamoah Gyan’s long-range shot was saved by Hart.

Lee Addy had a horrible day on the left flank, with Glen Johnson and Jack Wilshere operating at will. This nearly resulted in an opening goal for England, as Ashley Young’s strike hit the crossbar.

Ghana’s fans became vociferous again, chanting and urging the Black Stars on. Adiyiah made a fine connection which was parried by Goalkeeper Hart.

Ghana enjoyed a good one minute’s possession, attracting cheers from the fans, some of whom have travelled almost 6,000 kilometers from Ghana to watch the game.

It was England though, who took the lead through Liverpool striker Andy Carroll. He slotted the ball home after he was set up by man-of-the-match Stewart Downing.

Back from recess, Derrick Boateng, who replaced Anthony Annan, injected some pace into the Ghanaian game.

A surging run by Agyemang Badu nearly cost England, but Gary Cahill was on hand to save the situation with a timely clearance.

Ghana, at this stage, threatened the goal-area of England repeatedly, but the resultant corner was headed over the bar, by Jonathan Mensah.

Goalkeeper Kingston was wonderful on the day, making superb saves.

In the dying embers of the game, when everyone thought England was going to carry the day, Asamoah ‘Baby Jet’ Gyan fired a left-footer that went straight into the net, to leave the scores, Ghana 1, England 1.

A deafening sound greeted the goal, and for about 10 minutes after the match was over, Ghana fans were still in the stadium chanting and singing.

Cesc Fabregas

Fernando Torres has warned Cesc Fabregas of the potential downside if he decides to leave Arsenal and join Barcelona but advised the Gunners captain to pursue what is best for his career.

The former Liverpool forward believes he is in a position to dish out advice on the midfielder’s probable transfer to the Catalan club, having made a controversial move from Liverpool to Chelsea in the winter transfer window.

The Stamford Bridge striker has seen his stock fall on Merseyside, going from an icon to outcast in a short period of time, and the Spaniard believes Fabregas may have to brace himself for a backlash if he leaves this summer.

“Everyone has their own story but from what I’ve read, Cesc is grateful to [Arsene] Wenger and Arsenal,” Torres said, according to Diario Sport.

“But if you leave, you have to get wet. And indications were that some fans threatened boycotting the game, a few hours before the game which enjoyed massive publicity.

Some have argued that the Italian trainer foresaw an imminent defeat from Africa’s soccer finest, who had returned from Congo Brazzaville unscratched- recording an emphatic 3-0 win on foreign land in a Nations Cup qualifier.

Capello’s were guided by Serbian trainer Goran Stevanovic, who recorded his first competitive victory since assuming post on February 1, after winning 4-1 against Togo in an international friendly in Belgium.

The game, which was closely monitored by the British press, has thus drawn the battle lines for the much-touted England-Ghana international friendly scheduled for the Wembley Stadium in London tomorrow evening.

Tagoe opened the scoring after 20 minutes, while 2009 world best juvenile player Adiyiah made it double when he headed home a John Paintsil cross a few minutes to the end of the first half.

Muntari, who came in for Marseille’s youngster Dede Ayew, added his name to the score sheet just three minutes onto the pitch, with a thunderous short.

Udinese Midfielder Kwadjo Asamoah came close to increasing the tally on two occasions but his efforts yielded no results.

Earlier, the home side threw more men in front which nearly resulted in a goal, but the Ghanaian rear, comprising skipper John Mensah, Isaac Vorsah, Paintsil and David Addy, who was later replaced with Lee AAdy due to injury, proved equal to the challenge to provide cover for goalkeeper Richard ‘Oleley’ Kingson.

Ghana, now on the Group A summit with seven points, will host the Congolese in the return encounter on June 5, for the
