\n\t\t\t\t\t\tThe speed at which the Ghana Police Service is being politicized is mindboggling. That is the true reflection of the situation this enviable state institution is beset with. <\/p>\n

Sweeping it under the carpet is not an ideal option and we urge all stakeholders to brood over the unfolding developments.<\/p>\n

It is not difficult to trace the source of the anomaly. Those at the twilight of their professional career and at the top of the ladder are those responsible for the dangerous trend, and we think that the need to reverse the situation should not be ignored.<\/p>\n

Of all the state institutions, this is one peopled with very intelligent Ghanaians whose work output, if not politicized, can pass the test of quality and professionalism all over the world. Unfortunately, however, the otherwise hardworking professionals are not encouraged to practise their calling.<\/p>\n

The issue of bribery is an all-pervading canker not limited to the Police Service, and so denying the institution the desired respectability it deserves, as a result of this, would not be a good thing to do.<\/p>\n

Suffice it to state however that the rate at which those at the top have allowed themselves to be toyed with by politicians is not in the best interest of the institution which should be spared this anomaly.<\/p>\n

The Ghana Police Service must stand the test of time and salvage its sinking image from the citizenry.<\/p>\n

Pandering to the whims of such politicians because they are in power would not serve the interest of the nation and must be stemmed.<\/p>\n

We have taken note of the invitation of a politician, Kennedy Agyapong, by the Police CID to come and answer questions regarding an alleged threat of death and wish to state that the action smacks of politics.<\/p>\n

The police is being politicized in such a fashion that we shudder to think what would become of it in the not distant future.<\/p>\n

Two politicians, Alhaji Bature and Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, expressed their opinions on a radio station via telephone, during which the two exchanged uncomplimentary words.<\/p>\n

The exchanges, but for the heat accompanying them and indeed the specific allegations of drug peddling leveled by one of the personalities against the other, are the normal ones between such persons belonging to the political fraternity.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, one of them reported the alleged case to the CID headquarters, not the nearest police station, which is Nima, about a threat of death.<\/p>\n

We find the speed with which the police have acted in this case amazing and wonder whether we are dealing with an energized security agency, unlike what we have had for a while now.<\/p>\n

If we may ask, what has happened to the Agblobloshie murders, the carnage at Atiwa and elsewhere?<\/p>\n

Do some crimes matter more than others because of the interests of political players who are in government? We ask those who have taken policing as a career to consider what they can do to salvage the image of the institution, as those on the verge of ending their professional career are intent on satisfying the interests of their political masters and are ready to bend the rules by all means.<\/p>\n

As for Paul, we pray that he stops the politically- motivated transfers because after all, governments shall come and go but the police, as a state institution, would endure in as much as the sovereign nation, Ghana, does.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p>\n
