{"id":349520,"date":"2011-03-30T10:41:26","date_gmt":"2011-03-30T10:41:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/03\/30\/service-sector-rallies-in-january\/"},"modified":"2011-03-30T10:41:26","modified_gmt":"2011-03-30T10:41:26","slug":"service-sector-rallies-in-january","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/03\/30\/service-sector-rallies-in-january\/","title":{"rendered":"Service sector rallies in January"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div readability=\"65.540891144952\">\n    \t\t  <span><br \/>\n    <span>30 March 2011<\/span><br \/>\n<span>Last updated at <\/span><span>06:41 ET<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Output from the UK services sector rebounded sharply in January, suggesting the economy made a stronger start to the year, figures show.<\/p>\n<p>Output rose by 1.3% from the previous month, compared with a contraction of 1.1% in December, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.<\/p>\n<p>All components that make up the sector saw rises in output.<\/p>\n<p>Figures released on Tuesday showed that the UK economy shrank by 0.5% in the final three months of 2010.<\/p>\n<p>This was slightly less than the previous estimate of 0.6%.<\/p>\n<p>Hotels and restaurants gave the biggest boost to the services sector, with output rising 4.4% on the previous month, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.statistics.gov.uk\/pdfdir\/ios0311.pdf\">the ONS said in its report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Transport, storage and communication saw output increase 1.7%, while business and financial services rose by 1.4%.<\/p>\n<p>  <span>&#8216;Weak recovery&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Analysts said the service sector figures suggested the economy would be stronger in the current quarter.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Given the dominant role of the services sector, this is a significant boost to hopes that the economy has achieved a decent bounce back in growth,&#8221; said Howard Archer at IHS Global Insight.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We currently forecast GDP to grow by 0.7% in the first quarter.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>However, some observers were less convinced of the impact an upturn in services in January would have on the overall economy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The level of activity is flat &#8211; the same as six months ago, so the state of the recovery is pretty weak,&#8221; said Samuel Tombs at Capital Economics.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>Read more from the original source:<br \/>\n<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/go\/rss\/int\/news\/-\/news\/business-12906023\" title=\"Service sector rallies in January\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Service sector rallies in January<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> 30 March 2011 Last updated at 06:41 ET Output from the UK services sector rebounded sharply in January, suggesting the economy made a stronger start to the year, figures show.
