CNN recently caught up<\/a> with Jill Scott on the set for her new single “Shame” with fellow Philly native Eve.\u00a0 The single represents a return to Jill’s hip hop roots while the video itself represents something a bit more personal.<\/p>\n

Shot at the\u00a0Cecil B. Moore Recreation Center on the city’s north side, this is the place where Jill spent her summers as a child and where she began to write poetry.\u00a0 What’s special about the shoot is that Jill decided to do the video there after learning the center was on the city’s list to be demolished.\u00a0 So Jill and her Blues Babe Foundation swooped in to save the day.\u00a0 Jill paid for a new roof, gym floor and basketball court.<\/p>\n

\n

“When I found out it was closing, it just hurt my feelings because kids like me needed a place to go.\u00a0We just started to really take care of this facility because we don’t want it to shut down.” <\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

She continued,<\/p>\n

\n

“Every community needs a rec center.\u00a0\u00a0I put a lot of my love and my heart here.”<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

When Elaine Lark<\/strong>, a local grandmother, learned of Jill’s generosity she said,<\/p>\n

\n

“It’s nice to see that Jill Scott thought enough about North Philly to come back and have everything here at the rec center.\u00a0\u00a0“It’s a boost for the community. A lot of times entertainers don’t come back, but I love that she did.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

But for Jill, rebuilding the rec center was second nature saying,<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>“You still have to come back.\u00a0\u00a0Where you come you take care of that place. Everybody is supposed <\/em>to\u00a0 be a part of their own community.”\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0<\/span>
